Week 4

My goals and what I tell myself daily.   Your diet plays a key role in fat loss and ultimately how your body looks. Here are some tips to go along with your workout:
Drink water – It’s a good idea to have water available and drink several or more glasses throughout the day, about 2.5 liters. How to know if you’re hydrated?  If urine color is clear or nearly clear you are likely drinking enough water.
Sodas – Give up sodas, including diet.
Avoid junk food and fast food.
Eat more fresh fruits, veggies, nuts, lean protein and low fat dairy and avoid processed foods that are packed with sodium and refined sugar.
Eat smaller portions, about the size of your fist.  We eat 5-6 small meals each day and never have hunger pains.
Read labels and look at the ingredients’ list.  If the product contains refined sugar, enriched white flour and high sodium, these are foods best left on the shelf.

Week 3

Fall is officially here in North Texas!  I'm loving this weather so much that I've been taking my workouts outside twice a day.   I power walk to the park for 1.5 hours, and as I push the stroller I incorporate lunges.  I also started a power pilates dvd to use at home while my daughter is napping.  My goal is to lose inches around my waistline and hips and pilates is great for the core area.

My new favorite snack this week are veggie flax seed chips with black bean dip.  It's delicious!  I have a weakness for chips-n-dip so it's nice finding foods that I love AND they are healthy...bonus!  The rest of my diet this week includes two eggs for breakfast, lean turkey on oat wheat bread for lunch, and tomato soup with wheat crackers for dinner. No more candy drawer for me!

My workout buddy , mainly along for the ride but is great support!!!

I weight myself weekly on Sundays to check my progress and I lost one pound...not bad at all!  If I can do it, you can do it!  Until next week, happy healthy eating and exercising!

Week 2

So I decided I'm going to write weekly updates; it is pretty difficult to update daily when I'm chasing around a 9 month old.  Last week was the first week for me to eat healthy, work out, and track it all.  I always seem to do extremely well until I get to work.  The reason it’s hard for me to eat healthy at work is because of the candy drawer (see IMAGE to the right).  The drawer is filled once a week with all sorts of sugary temptations and it’s located in our treatment room where I spend most of my day.  I only lost one pound last week and I think it’s because I caved in to the lure of the drawer.  I’m determined to be strong tomorrow and NOT open the evil drawer. I do feel good because I’ve been running and took a cycling class this week; however, I’m so ready for this Texas heat to cool down so I can enjoy my workouts outside.

FOOD TIP: My new discovery this week and currently my favorite bite to eat is Trader Joe’s tofu burgers.  They’re so yummy and healthy!  Don’t let tofu scare you….normally I’m not a fan of its taste, but these are worth savoring.
My daughter and I are enjoying our power walks to the park in the mornings.  My next purchase will be a jogging stroller, so I can hit the trails and step up my workouts.
I will weigh myself every Sunday and will share my weight and my advice on meals and activities every week.  Until next time ladies….stay strong!

Morning workout

Just got back from my 1 1/2 hour power walk/jog at the Trinity River.  It's nice out this morning but still broke a good sweat.  Finished my cardio with lunges and squats at the park.  Did I mention I had my little girl and dog Bailey with me too.  Just to mention theres no excuses why anyone can not find time to do these things.  Kids are NO EXCUSE!!!

Here we go

Okay here we go, this is me now bare with me I live alone besides my 8 month old so I have o take the photos myself.  This is me at 167 lbs yikes and yes I said it lol.  I am 5 foot 7 and weighing 167 right now.  My goal to start is to get to 157 I will post pics and my day to day workout hopefully eventually you will see me taking pictures in a sports bra instead of t-shirt. LOL!!!

Starting the day off right

I am a big believer in eating a healthy breakfast every morning.  It helps speed up your metabolism and gives you energy to start your day.  So who would not want to do that every day.  I usually have eggs, protein shake, or special K cereal.  This morning was two boiled egg whites.  There is only 17 calories in one whole egg white.   Egg whites consist mainly of water, proteins, minerals, vitamins, fats and glucose. They have very small amounts of fat andcholesterol, but are rich in selenium and vitamins such as Vitamin D, Vitamin B6 and Vitamin B12. The protein Ovalbumin present in egg whites is important for the metabolism of enzymes in the body. Egg whites also contain minerals such as zinc, iron, copper, phosphorus, calcium and potassium. These minerals help in the development of teeth, bones and fingernails.  So start your day

December 22 2011

December 22, 2011 was the day that changed my life forever.  I had my beautiful baby girl Briley Michelle.  I had gained over 50 pounds with that 5lb 9 oz angel.  A lot of the weight was water weight,  my legs and feet were so swollen and I looked like a hippo.  So after having Briley I immediately lost over 30 lbs and was very encouraged to loose the rest.  As most of you know you can't work out for at least 6 weeks after having a c- section.   But I did walk around the neighborhood and did the elliptical too.  So I could not rejoin the gym until Briley was six months old to have her in the gym nursery.  I immediately joined when she hit 6 months and I gave been going about 3-4 times a week taking turbo kick box and Zumba which I love.  I have been very motivated with how I gave continued to loose weight and gain muscle.  But the last 3 weeks it's like my body just stopped loosing weight .  So I know that you can hit a plateau and I'm pretty sure I have. So this blog is not only to encourage and motivate other moms out there it's also to motivate me and prove that it can happen.
